Anthony Amos 1950 - 2010

Anthony Amos joined the Merchant Navy at the age of eighteen and was given the opportunity to assist in the restoration of the SS Great Britain when she was returned to Bristol Docks in 1970.

After many years working on commercial ships and trawlers, in 1984 he quit the Merchant Navy to pursue a career as an artist, going on to study Fine Art at Manchester College of Art and The Royal West of England Academy, and Art and Aesthetics at Cardiff University.

Until his untimely death in 2010, Anthony practised art full-time. Although he is remembered primarily as a marine artist, ships and the sea were not his only subjects: he approached many varied subjects, often inspired by the Devon countryside where he lived.
